The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) in Sokode Gbogame, Ho East Presbytery, has initiated the construction of a new ultra-modern chapel with a capacity of 1,200.
Founded in 1966 as an offshoot of the Sokode Etoe congregation, the church has seen steady growth over the years. The congregation has since established a permanent location and built three chapels, with the current one in use since its inception.
On Sunday, July 28, 2024, the church, now boasting a membership of over five hundred, held a groundbreaking and fundraising ceremony to commence the construction of the new chapel.
In his address, Mr. Richard Bansah, Chairman of the Building Committee, highlighted the church's growth under the guidance of various pastors and catechists, as well as the dedication of its members. He emphasized the need for a new, larger place of worship to accommodate the increasing congregation, stating, "The church has grown from strength to strength, necessitating more space."
Mr. Bansah urged the congregation to see the building project as a sacred effort that reflects the unity and strength of the church. He acknowledged the committee's work and contributions, encouraging the congregation to stay inspired by the possibilities ahead despite any challenges.
He also noted the significant role the church has played in the community, particularly in education. "The church has been instrumental in community development, especially in education," he said, citing the EP primary school as a key example that has benefited both locals and non-locals. He expressed that the new chapel would further enhance the church's ability to serve, educate, and uplift the community, reinforcing its position as a cornerstone of the area.
Mr. Bansah assured the congregation and guests of the committee's commitment to the project, calling for their support. "As we break ground today, I invite everyone to contribute to the project's successful completion. We pledge financial discipline and transparent accounting to ensure the project's success," he promised.
Togbe Tsali IV, the chief of Abutia Kpota, expressed his full support for the project and appealed for assistance from the first batch members of the EP primary school.
The new chapel, expected to be completed within a year and a half, will feature both lower and upper floors and will include various facilities to accommodate the growing congregation.
