MIHOSO Foundation, Turkey Lola Group invest in agro ecological interventions in eight regions

MIHOSO International Foundation, a Sunyani-based non-governmental organization, has announced its investment in agroecological interventions across eight regions in Ghana.

The Turkey Lola Group is funding the NGO to advance organic farming, afforestation, and food security services in the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Savannah, Northern, Upper East, Upper West, and North East Regions.

Dr. Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, the Chief Executive Officer of MIHOSO, stated that the initiative would collaborate with other NGOs, farmers, local governments, and research institutions.

“Our aim is to promote sustainable agriculture practices, enhance food security, and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers,” Dr. Benarkuu told the media in an interview in Sunyani. “We believe this partnership will drive meaningful impact and contribute to the nation’s agricultural development.”

Dr. Benarkuu explained that key interventions of the initiative focus on organic farming training and certification, afforestation and reforestation programs, food security services, market access support, research and innovation in agroecology, and technology engineering transfer.

Academic institutions will play a critical role in the project implementation by deploying Level 200 and 300 student interns to the field to learn “agripreneurship,” he added.

The Sunyani-based College for Community and Organisational Development (CCOD) will provide technical support and facilitate student learning, offering feedback to farmer-based organizations to enhance their operations.

Dr. Benarkuu, who is also the President of CCOD, invited interested stakeholders to “join us in this agroecological transformative journey and build a sustainable and food-secure future for Ghana.” He expressed appreciation to the Lola Group in Turkey and its offices in Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, South Africa, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for their support.
