Youth radicalization and violent extremism are increasingly becoming a threat to national cohesion, peace, and development. The development of countries in the West Africa subregion are key issue threatening nations' building and development.
To respond to the worrying trend of violent extremism, there is a need to empower young people, and this will defuse their mindset from becoming radicalized and extremist. Mr. Tahiru Lukman, the Chief Executive Officer of Ideapath Consult and Youth Activist, made this declaration in a durbar of chief and people held in Saapare Community; organized by the Daffiama Bussie Issa District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
Mr. Tahiru Lukman noted further that parents should prioritize the education and skill acquisition of their children. He noted further that an educated person is an empowered citizen and, for that matter, to help fight crime responsible citizenship is key to deradicalized Ghanaian Youth. He stated, "Let's prevent our young people from becoming extremists; education and skill training will enable them to become responsible."
The event was part of the NCCE's strategic plan to engage the community to enhance relations with the Ghana Police Service.
