In an effort to boost food production in Ghana, the Federation of Association of Ghana Exporters (FAGE) is collaborating with USAID, GIZ, GEPA, Fidelity Bank, and GIRSAL.
This initiative is a precursor to a three-day expo scheduled for July 9-11, 2024.
FAGE President Mr. Davies Narh Korboe emphasized the importance of increasing both domestic and international food production. He encouraged members to work diligently to meet these demands, highlighting that food production is a lucrative business with a ready market.
Despite the perennial challenges in the sector, Mr. Korboe expressed confidence in developing a strategic approach to agriculture, particularly through horticulture.
Sir Sam Jonah, Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital Equity Fund and the event's Guest Speaker, acknowledged the progress made in horticulture. He attributed this success to the collaborative efforts of the government, policymakers, and dedicated horticulturists, which have boosted the economy and positioned Ghana as a key player in the global horticulture market.
Mr. Julian Opuni, Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Ghana, announced the introduction of products aimed at supporting Ghanaian indigenous enterprises. He urged these enterprises to strategize, take tangible actions, share insights, and collaborate to overcome financial challenges. He noted that over 400 exporters have benefited from Fidelity Bank's facilities and encouraged better organization to attract further financial support.
Sarah Ruffler, Head of Programme for GIZ-AgriBiz, stated that the partnership aims to maximize trade, create more jobs, and generate revenue in the sector.
The launch event also featured representatives from the Association of Ghana Industries, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, UNIMAC, and GIRSAL.
