Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has mocked an Electoral Commission (EC) official for praying over electoral machines before the Limited Voters Registration Exercise.
His remarks come after Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng, a member of the EC, called on divine intervention to resolve the technical challenges plaguing the ongoing voter registration exercise.
About two weeks ago, on May 8, 2024, Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng visited the Ayawaso West district office of the EC, where she witnessed technical difficulties firsthand.
In reaction, she led a heartfelt prayer in the presence of party agents, asking for divine intervention to restore the registration machines and connectivity.
In her prayer, Rev. Ofori Boateng said, “We pray for the machines that we are using here, we pray for connectivity, we pray that they will work. We pray that they will work throughout the day so that everybody will have the opportunity to register.”
She concluded by praying for the party agents, asking God to be with them.
The registration exercise faced several setbacks on the first day due to erratic power supply and network challenges.
Although the situation improved on the second day, later reports indicated that the setbacks had resurfaced, prompting the need for divine intervention.
Reacting to this on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Kwesi Pratt expressed his bewilderment at the actions of the EC official.
“Apart from the mistakes and other issues, I find it difficult to understand why an Electoral Commission official would pray over faulty electoral machines. Straining herself in a serious moment of prayer for the machines. Is that her role?” Pratt questioned.
