The Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has chastised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for consistently making democratically incorrect statements that inferably undermine the tenets of the 1992 Constitution.
“President Akufo Addo has in recent times made statements that have the potential to create political instability, jeopardize the sanctity of multi-party democracy, and, in general, create a structure where socio-economic development is based on the voting patterns of the people,” Mr. Abraham Koomson, GFL Secretary General, stated.
Mr. Koomson, contributing to a radio discussion, noted that “on three separate occasions, in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold in the Ashanti Region, in the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) stronghold in the Volta Region, and in the swing Central Region, President Akufo Addo spite the Ghanaian electorate.
He explained that President Akufo Addo snubbed residents in some constituencies in the Ashanti Region who were demanding their fair share of the national cake and dared them to vote against the NPP in Election 2024.
In the Volta and Central Regions, President Akufo Addo admitted the lack of development and attributed it to the people’s failure to vote for NPP candidates in the previous elections.
Speaking on the topic “Utterances of the President concerning lack of development in particular regions of the country,” Mr. Koomson noted that having sworn an oath under the Constitution to represent all Ghanaians and seek their welfare, it becomes impeachable conduct if the President acts contrary to his oath.
Mr. Koomson described President Akufo-Addo’s administration as super incompetent, judging from the economic crisis the nation is currently facing, and in the wake of it, the government continues to impose taxes on everything, adding more burden on the already exhausted taxpayer.
He stressed that the president and the government seemed clueless about managing the economy well and how to steer the nation out of the deep crisis they had plunged the nation into, and they kept on tickling each other in government with slogans.
Mr. Koomson cited the poor performance of the local currency against other international currencies, especially the US Dollar, the pound, and the Euro, and called for immediate remedial action to reverse the economic retrogression.
He further asked Parliament to begin a process to impeach the president following what he believes is the mismanagement of the economy.
He stressed that the MPs from both sides of parliament should step up the process to impeach the president. According to him, sitting back and doing nothing shows a nation that lacks honour.
