IMANI is only runner-up for 2006 Templeton Freedom Prize for Initiative in
Public Relations. First Place is awarded to The Hellenic Leadership
Institute in Greece.

The runner-up for the Templeton Freedom Prize for Initiative in Public
Relations is IMANI: The Centre for Humane Education based in Accra, Ghana.
IMANI receives $5,000 for leveraging its Templeton Freedom Award Grant
exceptionally well to gain access to important media sources and to speak
at crucial meetings in and outside Ghana.

As one judge commented, “I give them the highest points for being most
specific and rigorous in applying free-market solutions to an array of
complex social problems. Their submission shows the importance of using
rigorously derived, quantifiable research outputs to gain credibility in
shaping the policy debate. Crisp, clear, compelling data is the most
useful tool to provide to any media outlet, and it's easy for the media to
use, without interpretation.” IMANI is the first African think tank to win
one of only two prizes for public relations.

Earlier this year, IMANI was the only African market-oriented think tank
to win the top prize for the 2006 Templeton Freedom Prizes for Excellence
in Promoting Liberty. The Prize recognizes excellent work by institutes
and scholars who address important subjects related to advancing the
understanding of freedom. Imani won the top prize in the Templeton Prize
for Student Outreach which recognizes outstanding work by think tanks in
building bridges with the academic world to improve education about
freedom.

Established in 2004, IMANI promotes reality-based and common-sense
solutions to poverty in Ghana, Africa and the rest of the world.

The Hellenic Leadership Institute (HLI) based in Athens, Greece as the
first place winner of the 2006 Templeton Freedom Prize for Initiative in
Public Relations.

Established in 2001, the HLI promotes the principles of free enterprise,
democracy, individual liberty, and international cooperation through
communication campaigns and in-depth research.

HLI not only publicized its receipt of the Templeton Freedom Award Grant
with a well designed marketing plan, but also used the Grant to boost its
credibility considerably throughout Greece. HLI's effort to promote its
Grant resulted in a large volume of media coverage of its work in a region
of the world that is increasingly hostile to western notions of liberty.

As one judge remarked, “The importance of having a free market
organization active in that part of the Mediterranean and one that has an
open dialogue with Arab countries can hardly be over-emphasized. Because
of the importance of their work, the dynamism that is evident in the
organization, and the value that they and their country places on
international recognition, I would award HLI the 2006 Templeton Freedom
Prize for Initiative in Public Relations.” For these efforts, Atlas
rewards HLI with a $10,000 cash prize.

Atlas's founder, Sir Antony Fisher encouraged think tank leaders to
operate in a business-like manner with sharp attention to the task of
disseminating ideas – not just generating them. Sir John Templeton, for
whom this Prize is named, also feels strongly that engagement with the
media is essential to productive research efforts. The formal presentation
of this Prize will occur at the President's reception of the Atlas's
Freedom Dinner in Washington D.C. on November 16, 2006.

superior achievements in reaching the public through the media and
broadcasting free society topics. This Prize was created as an additional
incentive for the outstanding Templeton Freedom Award Grant winners to
devote sufficient time and attention to achieve a widespread publicity and
a broad dissemination of ideas, publications, and programs, through
successful and sustained engagement with the media. Please visit
