NPP wins Offinso South bye-election

Accra, Oct 25, GNA - Dr Owusu Achaw Duah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate on Tuesday polled 20,763 votes representing 65.52 per cent of the total valid votes of 31,690 cast, to win the Offinso South parliamentary bye-election.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Barbara Serwa Asamoah, had 10,666 votes representing 33.66 percent to place second. Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Addai, an Independent Candidate had 177 votes that represented 0.56 per cent to place third whiles Doris Appiah of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) got 84 votes representing 0.27 per cent to place fourth.

Total rejected votes were 488 and the total registered voters in the constituency are 45,523 whilst the total number of voters who turned out was 70.69 per cent.

The Constituency had 98 polling stations.

In an interview with journalists Dr Duah thanked the people of Offinso South for voting massively for him and the party. He said he would continue the good works of the late Member of Parliament of the area, Mr Kwabena Safo, and called for cooperation in other to build the constituency.

Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, conceded defeat on behalf of the party but said there seemed to be a lot of loopholes in the electoral system that needed to be improved upon. Mr Addai also accepted defeat.
