U/E/R: Annual General Meeting of Ghana Hubs Network held

A two-day annual general meeting of the Ghana Hubs Networks (GHN) has been organized in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Region.

The Ghana Hubs Networks is a nationwide network across the sixteen regions of Ghana, with the pre-occupation of, providing access for training of young people to enable them leverage their skills and the assets that they have within the local communities across the country, and would be able to develop innovations that will enable development at the local level.

It was organized by the Ghana Hubs Networks and hosted by DANSYN Z ISO which is a member of the network in the Upper East Region. The AGM brought together more than 50 participants made up of researchers, digital technologies, entrepreneurs, innovators and enthusiasts, experts in ICT, social scientist among others across the country to infuse knowledge for development.

Speaking in an interview with this reporter, the Director of Policy and Research of the Ghana Hubs Network, Yaw Adu Gyamfi stated that GHN is a natural partner with the government and other development stakeholders with the aim of raising an army of young people who would want to team up and work innovatively with other stakeholders to addressing the challenges that they have at the local level, and by so doing, GHN is able to impact at the National level.

Mr. Gyamfi indicated that the idea of hosting the AGM in the Upper East Region is to help build the eco-system and to also take resolutions that will feed into the overall development paradigm for Ghana, especially to ensure how business incubators, accelerators and Hubs in the country have all it takes to do their work.

The Chairman of the GHN Josiah Eyison said GHN is an umbrella body of 52 registered hubs in Ghana. He stated that they provide the space for graduates who after university still need resources and training for them to be able to develop the ideas and concepts and gain funding for the projects that they do. Mr. Eyison commended the government for the hard work in this area however, the contribution of GHN cannot be underestimated as they can envisage how the industry will be like in five years to come.

A lecturer at the entrepreneurship Centre of Ashesi University Dr. Gordon Adomdza said, it is envisioned that in 10 years to come, Sub- Saharan Africa will lead in the population growth due to the huge number of her youth. In Ghana for instance, he said, the economy keeps dwindling and provides no more enabling avenues for employment. It is against this backdrop that it is important to train the youth in entrepreneurial skills and digital technology so the youth can take their destiny into their own hands.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dansyn ISO, Daniel Yennube Nang commended the GHN for choosing to host the AGM in the Upper East Region. He added that the move will foster collaboration and inspire the youth to upscale their quest for digital, innovation and entrepreneurship skills as part of solutions to addressing the problems in these challenging times.
