Cape Coast, Friday, May 28, - Abraham Smiles Foundation, a community based Non-Governmental Organisation with the aim of creating opportunities for the underprivileged has been launched in Cape Coast.
Prior to the launch, the NGO embarked on a clean -up exercise and provided free breakfast to the needy in Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast.
Speaking in an interview withe the Ghana News Agency, Mr Ibrahim Muntari, the Executive Director of the Foundation explained that the NGO also existed to imbibe in the youth the sense of patriotism and make positive impact in the society.
”Due to modernity and economic hardships people are less sensitive towards their society. We believe that when people are involved in nation building , they tend to be sensitive towards the society”, he said.
He said there is the need for all to adopt good hygiene practices to help reduce diseases such as malaria, cholera and diarrhea to live a healthy and happy life.
On why they provided the free breakfast, he said research has shown that a lot of people missed breakfast which is the most important meal of the day mainly due to financial challenges.
For this reason, he said the NGO has launched a project dubbed ‘sustainable free food for the needy’ with the aim of making beneficiaries economically viable to be able afford three square meal.
He said as part of the project, beneficiaries would be trained in computer science, soap making, ice cream ,sugar making, carpentry, welding and other vocational skills and given capital to start their own enterprise.
This way, he believed they would be able to provide for themselves and that of their families.
Mr Muntari encourage people to celebrate their birthdays in the ophanage and with the less privileged rather than throwing expensive birthday parties, to put a smile on people’s face.
