Residents in the Asutifi North District, Ahafo Region, have commended the District and its partners of the ANAM - WASH programme for setting up a WASH DESK to receive their challenges related to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

The residents said with the introduction of the WASH DESK as part of ANAM - WASH programme which is aimed at providing portable and accessible water with the best of sanitation for the people by 2030 has been of great benefit to them so therefore it has been fully embraced.

They explained, currently with the introduction of the WASH - DESK, there has been a massive improvement on their water facilities because all that they need to do is to call a toll free number(0800304000) to 'vomit' their challenges to the managers for concrete solutions.

The residents who are beneficiaries of boreholes drilled by World Vision Ghana as part of the programme which has been commended by the Ugandan government said they have begun accessing the WASH DESK initiative and the response by the managers is amazing.

According to them, the existence of the DESK has made things easier when it comes to forwarding water and sanitation-related issues to the assembly for a credible solution and it is a plus to the entire team of the ANAM - WASH programme which is gradually improving water and sanitation at various communities.

They pleaded with the managers to maintain the DESK even if the programme is due because aside alerting the DESK with their problems their knowledge has been broadening as well on water and sanitation related matters.

The Officer In-charge of ANAM DESK, Joel Antwi Asubonteng stated that some of the complaints received include the unavailability of water flow due to road construction, breakdown of some boreholes among others.

He explained, immediately residents place their calls the DESK then channels the challenges to the appropriate quarters for solutions and it has drawn residents closer to the entire programme which forms part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.

Joel Antwi Asubonteng mentioned, the ANAM - WASH programme is designed for the people to get more interactive so the assembly and the partners are have put measures in place for them to understand that all facilities constructed under it are for them so therefore proper care must be taken.

He has assured residents of introducing additional initiatives of the ANAM - WASH programme to make it more attractive to them and also to help reach the objectives.
