American rapper Cardi B has condemned bullying and raised concerns about the safety of children in some New York neighbourhoods following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong in the Bronx.

The Bronx-born musician spoke about the incident during an Instagram Live session, questioning why anyone would take the life of a person who had neither attacked nor harmed them.

Cardi B also highlighted the challenges immigrant children face when adjusting to life in the United States, particularly those arriving from African countries and the Dominican Republic.

According to the rapper, some immigrant children experience persistent bullying, including from members of their own communities, making it difficult for them to feel safe and accepted in their new environments.

She warned that such harassment could push vulnerable children towards gangs as they seek protection and a sense of belonging. Reflecting on her own childhood experiences, Cardi B explained that bullying could make innocent children feel compelled to join groups to defend themselves.

The rapper also expressed concerns about raising children in certain New York neighbourhoods, saying she would not want her own children growing up in some areas of the city or attending its public schools.

She advised families planning to relocate to the East Coast to consider alternative locations, including Pennsylvania.

Her comments follow the death of Frimpong, who was shot while walking to school in the Bronx on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

Frimpong moved from Ghana to the United States in 2025 to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong. He was a student at DreamYard Preparatory School.

The teenager's death has sparked renewed concerns about bullying, youth violence and the safety of immigrant children in New York.

Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has also assured the bereaved family of the government's support in pursuing justice for the deceased.
