Ghanaian entertainment journalist Ebenezer Donkoh, popularly known as NY DJ, has expressed concerns about the management of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium following Sarkodie's Rapperholic Kumasi concert.
According to NY DJ, Sarkodie reportedly paid GH¢400,000, equivalent to approximately $35,000, solely to secure the use of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the concert.
Reacting to the development, the media personality suggested that the authorities responsible for managing the facility could be blamed if the annual Rapperholic concert fails to return to Kumasi in the future.
His comments have sparked conversations about the cost of hiring major sporting facilities for entertainment events and the challenges organisers face when attempting to stage large-scale concerts outside Accra.
Sarkodie, one of Ghana's most celebrated rappers, has built a strong reputation through his annual Rapperholic concert, which brings together music lovers and some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.
The decision to extend the concert to Kumasi was seen as an opportunity to give fans in the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country the chance to experience the event without travelling to Accra.
However, the reported GH¢400,000 stadium rental fee has raised questions about the financial demands associated with organising such concerts and whether the costs could discourage organisers from returning to the venue.
