The Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Isaac Boadi, has urged the government to move beyond policy announcements and demonstrate measurable results in job creation.
He said Ghanaians need evidence of the jobs created by major government initiatives rather than repeated announcements of funds allocated to them.
Prof. Boadi made the remarks on JoyNews' AM Show on Friday, October 30, while commenting on the government's proposed investment of US$10 billion in the new economy under the 2027 Budget.
“The era of announcing numbers must end, and the era of giving us results should begin,” he said.
He questioned the government's ability to account for jobs created under the 24-hour economy programme.
The economist recalled that an amount of US$4 billion was announced for the initiative in 2025, with a target of creating 1.7 million jobs.
According to him, the programme was officially launched after the announcement, but the government has yet to provide a clear account of its employment outcomes.
“It's after 2025. Now we are in 2026, ending of this year. The one in charge tells us it cannot account for the number of that initiative created,” he said.
