Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame has highlighted the challenges of staging a successful stadium concert, arguing that musicians who single-handedly attract massive crowds to such venues deserve to be celebrated for their achievement.

Speaking in an interview on Class FM, the award-winning musician reflected on the hiplife era, recalling how concerts such as Loud in Kumasi and Kicking in Accra brought together several popular artistes to entertain music lovers.

According to Okyeame Kwame, the events were successful partly because they featured multiple performers, with approximately 12 artistes sharing the same stage. He mentioned legendary hiplife acts, including Akyeame, Reggie Rockstone and Buk Bak, among those who contributed to the vibrant music scene at the time.

He explained that the combined star power of the performers helped attract large audiences, making it easier for organisers to fill stadiums than when a single musician was expected to draw the entire crowd.

Okyeame Kwame contrasted this approach with the experience of veteran highlife musician K.K. Kabobo, whom he said attempted to organise a stadium concert at the Accra Sports Stadium as a solo performer but failed to attract an audience.

According to his account, the disappointing turnout marked a major turning point in Kabobo’s career, from which the musician struggled to recover.

The rapper's recollection has reignited conversations about the difficulties musicians face when organising concerts, particularly the pressure to attract thousands of fans without relying on other artistes to support the event.

He stressed that successfully filling a stadium as a solo headliner requires more than having hit songs. It also demands a strong fan base, effective promotion, audience loyalty and the ability to turn popularity into actual attendance.

His comments come amid growing recognition of Ghanaian musicians who have successfully organised large-scale concerts and attracted substantial crowds through their individual brands.

For Okyeame Kwame, any artiste who manages to fill a stadium single-handedly deserves applause because of the enormous effort required to achieve such a milestone.
