Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has been appointed an ambassador for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), adding another milestone to his illustrious career.
The appointment was announced during the musician’s visit to the Kumasi-based university as part of activities leading up to his highly anticipated Rapperholic concert in the Ashanti Regional capital.
During the visit, KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christian Agyare presented Sarkodie with a special plaque reserved for Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) who visit the institution.
The plaque features an artistic representation of the university’s entrance designed in the form of a traditional stool. It also captures the image of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose donation of land contributed significantly to the establishment of the university.
Explaining the decision to appoint the rapper as an ambassador, Prof. Agyare said the university was seeking to extend its influence beyond academic excellence.
“We are moving from excellence to eminence, and we need people like you on board,” he said.
Sarkodie’s visit also provided students with an opportunity to interact with the music star ahead of his concert.
The university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) pledged its support for Rapperholic, suggesting that the rapper could expect a strong student turnout when he performs in Kumasi.
Sarkodie arrived in the city on Monday and received a warm welcome as anticipation continues to build for the Kumasi edition of Rapperholic.
