Ghana producers lifted my ban after it failed to stop my career - Kofi Ajorlolo

Veteran actor Kofi Ajorlolo has revealed that a two-year ban imposed on him by Ghanaian film producers was lifted within months after it failed to keep him out of work.

According to Ajorlolo, the decision was intended to stop him from featuring in film productions in Ghana. He described himself as the first actor to face such a punishment and said he was effectively made a “sacrificial lamb” by industry players.

The actor, however, said the ban did not have the effect its organisers had anticipated.

While Ghanaian producers were trying to prevent him from securing roles locally, Ajorlolo said filmmakers in neighbouring Nigeria continued to seek his services.

He recalled receiving calls and offers from Nigerian producers who wanted him to appear in their productions, giving him opportunities to remain active despite the restriction in Ghana.

Ajorlolo said the situation eventually forced the Ghanaian producers to reconsider their decision after they realised the punishment was not achieving its intended objective.

The original ban was expected to remain in place for two years, but according to the actor, it was withdrawn after roughly six to eight months.

“After six months or eight months or so, they themselves just pulled that thing out that I should come back,” he recounted.

Although he described the episode as a bitter experience, Ajorlolo said it ultimately exposed him to opportunities beyond Ghana and strengthened his connection with the wider West African film industry.
