I bought my first G-Wagon from selling pastries and meat pie - Gifty Brown

A video of Ghanaian businesswoman Gifty Brown sharing her rags-to-riches story has surfaced online, causing a some buzz.

The CEO of Cooker’s Delight, in an earlier exclusive interview with renowned Ghanaian blogger ZionFelix, disclosed that she bought a G-Wagon from proceeds of her meat pie business.

She said, “The pastries are what bought my G-Wagon. It was the meat pie.”

Gifty Brown explained how her meat pie business grew from small daily sales of GH¢15 to GH¢20 worth to 500 pieces a day, plus bulk corporate orders, which eventually funded her G-Wagon.

She indicated that she now runs multiple branches selling other foods, with steady queues even on Sundays.

The clip has sparked mixed reactions, with many laughing, others doubting the math, and some linking it to the recent arrest of Jessica Hartog, CEO of EuroSpa, who used to brag that her spa funded her lavish lifestyle.

Reacting, Kwabena Wagon wrote: “The fact that most people don’t believe you can make a lot of millions from selling food (the informal sector) is a big problem. Smh, I don’t know her, but what I know is: there’s a lot of money in the informal sector when we put in the structures. Let’s be positive.”

Appiah Fabian wrote: “Not holding brief for her ooo, but it’s not your GH¢7 or GH¢10 meat pie we’re talking about. She’s talking about the ‘meat pie’ where the cheapest one is not less than GH¢100. Masa.”

Bongo Ideas also wrote: “Jessica Hartog used to say she got everything from spa, this one too says she got her G-Wagon from selling pie. All this is possible because there’s no lifestyle audit in Ghana. Keep lying to us, the truth shall be revealed!”
