UK-based Ghanaian musician Reggie Zippy has stated that he could be sentenced to up to five years in prison if he is found guilty in an upcoming criminal court case.

The musician said he has been led by his spirit to speak about the case ahead of his appearance in court, stressing that the matter is criminal rather than civil.

“I’m going to court, and the court I’m going to is not a civil court but a criminal court. If I’m found guilty, the worst punishment will be that I will go to jail for five years for a crime that my perpetrators know I haven’t committed,” he said in an emotional video shared on Facebook.

Reggie Zippy also asked his supporters to pray for him, saying they may not hear from him online if he is sentenced after the court proceedings.

“I pray that I’m not found guilty of a crime that even my accusers know that I haven’t committed.

“If you all don’t hear from me or see me again online after tomorrow afternoon, then it means that I have been jailed, but I don’t know the number of years,” he said.

The musician said he has spent four and a half years explaining himself to people but remains hopeful that the difficult period will eventually end.

“I’ve spent four and a half years explaining myself to people, and it’s so painful. Do I see myself as a victim? No. I feel like all this shall pass,” he added.

Reggie Zippy also disclosed that he has already been convicted of breaching a non-molestation order, which he said has resulted in a criminal record that will remain in his name.

“I have still been convicted of breaching a non-molestation order, which means that I will have a criminal record in my name for the rest of my life,” he noted.
