Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has responded to rapper Sarkodie’s call for artistes to avoid entertaining toxic energy from fans seeking to elevate one artiste by attacking another.
The comments come after Sarkodie, in a social media post on Monday, September 7, cautioned artistes against entertaining fans who attack other brands in an attempt to elevate them.
Sarkodie said artistes should be wary of people who appear to be defending them but are instead seeking engagement for their own personal gain.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Stonebwoy said his response was based on recent interactions between the two artistes and what he described as Sarkodie’s conduct in two social media posts.
“You were very clear about how no artiste could be ‘forced’ to uphold any form of principle. That, literally, in our industry, artistes must play along so far as it benefits them, and it cannot matter how, because we all care about different things," Stonebwoy recounted from his conversation with Sarkodie.
Stonebwoy said he called Sarkodie after his RAH show in the United Kingdom to congratulate him, with the two speaking for more than 10 minutes.
He also recounted an interaction following his OVO show, saying Sarkodie posted cryptic video on social media, prompting him to question the message behind it.
According to Stonebwoy, he subsequently sent Sarkodie a message after making what he described as a factual tweet, following which Sarkodie called him back.
Although he initially missed the call, Stonebwoy said he returned it and the two artistes spoke for more than an hour about the music industry, artistes’ behaviour and their different perspectives.
“Standing on just these 2 videos for now, I believe this tweet of yours has been equally considered. And you will agree that without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION," he stressed.
