Colombian singer Shakira has explained why she featured Nigerian music icon Burna Boy on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup song, Dai Dai.
Speaking on the Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill, Shakira said she wanted a strong male voice for the song and believed Burna Boy was the right person for the collaboration.
She said she had always wanted to work with the Grammy-winning singer.
“I have always loved Burna. I was obsessed with getting him on the track, so I called him,” she said.
Shakira added that she could not imagine anyone else performing Burna Boy's part on the song.
Since its release, Dai Dai has topped Spotify's Global Music Video Chart. The song also made Burna Boy the first African artiste to reach number one on Apple Music's Global Top Songs chart and the first African artiste to perform at the FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show.
