Doctors remove motorbike key from farmer's skull after attempting to separate fight at Amenyo

Doctors at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra have successfully removed a motorbike key that had lodged in the skull of Mr Moro Razak, a 29-year-old farmer from Awoma, a farming community in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region.

Mr Razak sustained the life-threatening injury on Tuesday, July 21, at about 2100 hours while attempting to separate two youths engaged in a fight at Amenyo, another farming community in the municipality.

The altercation reportedly involved two youths from Bodada, who had travelled to Amenyo to play tsatsa (gamble), a local game.

During the confrontation, Mr Razak, who intervened to restore calm, was allegedly stabbed with a motorbike key, which became embedded in his skull.

He was rushed to the Jasikan Municipal Hospital for emergency treatment but was later referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra due to the severity of his condition.

Providing an update on Monday, Mr Moro Alhassan, an uncle of the victim who has been staying with him at the hospital, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that surgeons successfully performed the operation on Sunday, July 26, to remove the motorbike key.

“The operation was successful, and Razak is recovering well by the grace of Allah,” Mr Alhassan said.

He expressed gratitude to the medical team at the 37 Military Hospital for their professionalism and dedication in saving the young farmer’s life.

Mr Alhassan also thanked relatives, friends and members of the public who offered prayers and other forms of support following the incident and appealed for continued prayers for Mr Razak’s full recovery as he remained under medical observation.

The incident has shocked residents of Awoma, Amenyo and surrounding communities, with many describing it as an unfortunate consequence of a dispute that escalated into violence.

Police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
