The family of legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Daddy Lumba has marked the first anniversary of his passing with an emotional private memorial at his East Legon residence in Accra.

The solemn gathering brought together close relatives and a few associates who assembled to honour the life, music and enduring legacy of one of Ghana’s most celebrated musical icons.

Among those present were the late musician’s kinsmen, his sister Faustina Fosu, and his widow Odo Broni, who were visibly overcome with emotion as they reflected on the man whose timeless songs shaped generations of Ghanaian music lovers.

In a poignant moment during the commemoration, the family offered the public its first glimpse of Daddy Lumba’s final resting place. The musician was laid to rest in a mausoleum within the grounds of his East Legon home, where a polished black‑marble tomb stands surrounded by awards, plaques and memorabilia chronicling his extraordinary career.

The display serves as a lasting tribute to a musical journey that spanned nearly four decades, produced more than 30 albums and delivered countless hit songs that continue to resonate across generations.

Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, Daddy Lumba died on July 26, 2025, at The Bank Hospital in Accra after a brief illness. He was 60. Although the exact cause of death was not publicly disclosed, news of his passing sent shockwaves across Ghana and beyond, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow musicians and national leaders.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest highlife musicians of all time, Daddy Lumba transformed Ghana’s music landscape with his distinctive voice, lyrical depth and masterful blend of traditional highlife and contemporary influences. His catalogue remains a cultural treasure, inspiring both established and emerging artists.

One year on, his music continues to dominate radio playlists, streaming platforms and public events — a testament to the enduring impact of an artist whose influence transcended eras.

As family members gathered in prayer and reflection at his mausoleum, the ceremony underscored the lasting legacy of a man whose melodies, storytelling and unmatched artistry have secured him an immortal place in Ghana’s musical history.
