Accra High Court grants GH¢100,000 bail to Webkid in alleged false publication against Stonebwoy

The Accra High Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 to Webkid, a well-known supporter of Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, who is facing charges related to the alleged publication of false information targeting fellow musician Stonebwoy and members of his family.

The case, which has generated widespread discussion among fans of both artistes, has been before the courts for several weeks. Webkid was previously denied bail after prosecutors reportedly filed additional charges and raised concerns regarding ongoing investigations.

At the latest hearing, however, the court admitted the accused to bail under specified conditions. The ruling was welcomed by supporters who gathered at the court premises, some carrying placards and calling for his release. Security personnel maintained a strong presence throughout the proceedings to ensure order and prevent disruptions.

The allegations stem from social media publications that investigators claim contained false and offensive content directed at Stonebwoy and his family. Prosecutors argue that the publications were capable of damaging reputations and disturbing public peace, while the defence has maintained that the accused deserves the opportunity to prepare his defence while on bail.

The case has attracted the attention of prominent figures within the entertainment industry, including Shatta Wale, who has publicly expressed support for Webkid and attended some of the court proceedings. The dancehall star had earlier vowed to stand by his supporter throughout the legal process.

Legal observers say the granting of bail does not determine guilt or innocence but allows the accused to remain out of custody while the substantive case continues before the court.

The matter has been adjourned for further proceedings as prosecutors continue to present their case and the defence prepares its response. The outcome is expected to be closely followed by fans and industry stakeholders given the long-standing rivalry between the camps of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

Meanwhile, supporters of both artistes have been urged to remain calm and avoid inflammatory comments on social media while the judicial process takes its course. The case remains before the court, and further hearings are expected in the coming weeks.
