Speaker Bagbin recalls Parliament for consideration of urgent parliamentary business

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has recalled Parliament from recess to sit for five days to consider urgent parliamentary business.

Parliament adjourned sine die (indefinitely) on Friday, July 31, bringing the second meeting of the second session of the ninth Parliament to a close.

The recess followed debates on the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review and the passage of several major national bills.

The recall will begin on Monday, August 24, and end on Friday, August 28, at Parliament House in Accra.

Speaker Bagbin announced the recall in a notice dated Wednesday, August 12, issued from the Office of the Speaker.

The Speaker invoked Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers him to recall the House from recess.

The notice directs Members of Parliament to return to the House for the scheduled sitting despite the ongoing recess.

“I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, do hereby direct that Parliament shall, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, be recalled from recess to sit on Monday, at 12 noon of the 24th to Friday the 28th day of August, 2026, at Parliament House, Accra, to consider urgent parliamentary business,” the notice stated.
