Report anyone offering Big Push contracts for sale to police — Roads Minister

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has cautioned the public against individuals claiming to be selling government road contracts under the flagship Big Push infrastructure programme, describing such offers as fraudulent.

In a post on X, the Minister urged Ghanaians not to engage with anyone purporting to have access to contracts under the initiative and advised that such persons be reported to the police.

"BIG PUSH projects NOT FOR SALE. Report ANYONE offering a 'Big Push project' for sale to the nearest police station," he wrote.

Mr. Agbodza's warning follows reports that some individuals are allegedly approaching contractors and members of the public with claims that they can facilitate the award of contracts under the programme in exchange for money.

He stressed that government contracts under the Big Push initiative are not available for sale and that anyone involved in such fraudulent activities should be reported immediately for investigation and possible prosecution.

The Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and due process in the procurement and execution of projects under the initiative.

The Big Push programme is the Mahama administration's flagship infrastructure initiative aimed at accelerating the development of critical road, transport and other strategic infrastructure across the country. The programme is expected to address Ghana's infrastructure deficit through large-scale investments in road construction, bridge development and other priority public works to improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth and create jobs.

As part of the programme, the government has earmarked billions of cedis for the rehabilitation and construction of key road networks nationwide, with priority given to projects expected to boost trade, improve access to farming communities and enhance regional integration. Parliament recently approved funding to support the implementation of the initiative, which is expected to be rolled out in phases over the coming years.

Mr. Agbodza reiterated that all contracts under the programme will be awarded through established legal and procurement procedures, urging the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to fraudsters seeking to exploit the government's flagship infrastructure agenda.
