Veteran Kumawood actor Agya Koo has urged young people struggling in Ghana’s major cities to return to their hometowns and take up farming, describing agriculture as a more reliable path to financial stability.
The actor, born Kofi Adu, made the remarks in a video circulating on X after expressing shock at the rising price of roasted corn during a trip.
“I am almost at Konongo, and I was craving corn, so we decided to buy some. They sold it to us for GH¢5,” he said.
According to Agya Koo, farming remains a profitable venture capable of providing sustainable livelihoods—far better than spending years unemployed or underemployed in cities like Accra and Kumasi.
He encouraged young people to return home and seek access to family lands for farming.
“To all the young ladies and gentlemen currently living in Kumasi and Accra, I would advise you to go back to your villages and plead with your grandparents, parents, or uncles to give you a piece of land to farm. You can venture into maize farming, ginger farming, or cassava farming,” he said.
Agya Koo also cautioned the youth against rushing abroad in search of greener pastures, urging them to consider farming as a viable alternative.
“To those young people who want to travel to Libya, Qatar, and other countries, I say, go back to your villages and farm. You do not have to rush through life,” he advised.
He added that if traveling abroad is unlikely to improve one’s situation, returning home to start a farming business could be a far better option.
