Ghanaian rap legend Okyeame Kwame is marking his 50th birthday on April 17 with a grand two‑day celebration, climaxing in a special live concert on April 18 at the +233 Jazz Bar & Grill.
Dubbed OK@50, the event has already generated major buzz, with a stellar lineup of artistes confirming their participation in honour of the “Rap Doctor.”
Among the top performers set to grace the stage are Sista Afia, Adina Thembi, Amerado, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Abiana, Abochi, Afriyie Wutah, Akwaboah, and Flowking Stone—a powerful blend of vocalists, rappers and live performers celebrating one of Ghana’s most enduring music icons.
Beyond the performances, the celebration has become a moment of heartfelt reflection, as several artistes shared personal stories about Okyeame Kwame’s influence on their careers and lives.
Kuami Eugene highlighted the rapper’s unmatched discipline and meticulous approach to his craft, revealing that Okyeame Kwame keeps a written archive of every song he has ever recorded. He recalled a moment when the artiste accidentally left behind a book filled with his handwritten raps—an insight into his dedication.
Adina described Okyeame Kwame as “family,” noting that he has guided her since her earliest days in the industry.
For Amerado, the connection is deeply personal. He recounted visiting Okyeame Kwame shortly after arriving in Accra to pursue music. The rap icon later supported him with a feature on his song Kyereme, a gesture Amerado says helped shape his journey.
Sista Afia praised him as someone who genuinely believes in people and consistently lifts others up, crediting him for playing a role in her growth.
But OK@50 is more than a night of music and nostalgia. The concert, themed “50 Songs for 50 Years of Love,” also carries a strong humanitarian purpose.
Proceeds from the event will support the construction of a pediatric emergency center at the Manhyia Hospital, reinforcing Okyeame Kwame’s long-standing commitment to social impact and community development.
As anticipation builds, the OK@50 celebration promises an unforgettable night of music, memories and meaningful giving—honouring not just a milestone birthday, but a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
