Renowned entertainment analyst Abro has ignited debate in the music industry by sharply criticizing Stonebwoy’s communication strategy, saying the award-winning dancehall artist made “a huge mistake” by not appointing MC Portfolio as his official spokesperson.
Speaking on Fakye Showbiz, Abro argued that the recent controversy involving the National Sports Authority (NSA) highlights serious flaws in Stonebwoy’s public relations structure.
The issue arose after Stonebwoy’s Public Relations Officer, Vida Adutwumwaa, revealed in an interview that Stonebwoy paid GHC350,000 to the NSA for the use of Accra Sports Stadium for this year’s Bhim Concert. Her disclosure quickly attracted public attention, as prior figures circulating online had been inconsistent. Tensions had already been high over stadium booking costs, and entertainment critics have long called for transparency regarding fees musicians pay for national venues.
Following the interview, the NSA issued a statement clarifying certain information, noting that some details circulating in the public domain were either erroneous or incomplete, though they did not deny receiving payment. Abro contended that this correction reflects poorly on Stonebwoy’s communication team.
Abro criticized Vida for mishandling the information, asserting that her delivery was poorly timed, unstrategic, and failed to anticipate public reaction. “The NSA’s need to issue a corrected statement shows weaknesses in how the Bhim Nation brand handles public communications, especially when dealing with sensitive matters concerning a state institution,” he said.
He argued that MC Portfolio, with his proven media relations skills, clear communication abilities, and professional experience, would have managed the situation more effectively. Abro emphasized that MC Portfolio’s calm, confident, and calculated approach could have prevented the miscommunication and the NSA’s follow-up statement. He also noted that MC Portfolio’s strong relationships in Ghanaian media make him an ideal choice for a high-profile entity like Bhim Nation.
Abro warned that without stronger communication leadership, such missteps could recur and potentially damage Stonebwoy’s reputation or government relations. He urged the artist to prioritize professional public relations to protect and strengthen the Bhim Nation brand.
