Highlife legend, Agya Koo Nimo, has expressed his deep admiration for Dancehall Star, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known by his stage name Shatta Wale Wale and revealed his wish to perform with him before passing on.
In a heartwarming phone conversation shared in a video posted by media personality Kafui Dey on June 11, the 94-year-old music icon shared his long-held desire to collaborate with Shatta Wale, saying:
“I want to do one show before I die. I'm 94. It is my wish to always see you in person. So I'm happy I've had the opportunity to talk to you.”
Shatta Wale, clearly moved by the call, expressed his appreciation and assured the legendary musician that he would visit him soon.
“I will make time and come and see you. This call will make me come and see you because I've also been thinking about you and yearning to meet you,” he said.
The touching exchange has since gained attention online, with many praising the mutual respect between two generations of Ghanaian music.
Agya Koo Nimo, known for his contributions to traditional Ghanaian music, remains one of the most respected figures in the country's cultural history. His desire to share the stage with Shatta Wale highlights the power of music to bridge generations and genres.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has called for a national celebration to honour Agya Koo Nimo, while he is still alive.
“We watched the Palmwine music, and I asked if the king of Palmwine music was still alive and I hear he's alive,” he said when he launched the Black Star Experience on Thursday May 1.
“This is a man we must honour before he passes because that was a genre of music that has become a part of our musical archive and our folklore.”
