Newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, says he has been unable to reach former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko since the party’s national executive elections.
The NPP held its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, to elect national executives for a four-year term.
John Boadu, a former General Secretary, won the chairmanship with 2,888 votes, defeating Mr Agyarko, who polled 2,408 votes.
Former National Chairman Paul Afoko secured 790 votes, while Sammy Crabbe received 41 votes.
Another contender Sammy Crabbe withdrew from the race on election day and endorsed John Boadu, forming an alliance that preceded Mr Boadu’s victory.
As part of his efforts to establish contacts with Boakye Agyarko, the NPP Chairman said he had also contacted former Member of Parliament Lydia Seyram Alhassan, a member of the former Energy Minister's campaign team, as part of efforts to reach him.
He made the disclosure on Accra-based Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show on Friday, October 9, as he outlined efforts to engage key figures in the party following his election.
“Honestly, since the election I have tried reaching out to Boakye Agyarko but to no avail. I have even reached out to his campaign team member Lydia Seyram Alhassan,” he said.
John Boadu said he remained determined to establish contact with Mr Agyarko, adding that he would make further efforts if he could not reach him by Sunday.
“But if by Sunday, I haven't been able to reach out to him, I will make sure to find him wherever he is in Ghana,” he added.
The NPP chairman also disclosed that he had engaged Sammy Crabbe after the election and intended to draw on his ideas to strengthen the party.
Mr Boadu further said he had spoken with former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko in a friendly manner on election day, expressing happiness that he had remained in the party and contested for the chairmanship again rather than joining the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
