Nollywood actress, Belinda Effah, now known as Grace Bassey, has joined the United States Navy and has become a U.S. citizen, marking a major life transition away from her acting career.
The 33-year-old actress shared the news on her instagram, posting a photo of herself in Navy uniform and expressing gratitude to God, her family, and fans for their support throughout her journey.
“Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States,” she wrote. “Nigeria raised me, America challenged me, and I stand today stronger and more determined than ever.”
She also dedicated the milestone to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah, saying, “In honour of my late father – Naval Cdr. Asido Bassey Effah.”
Grace Bassey explained that she changed her name from Belinda after what she described as a spiritual transformation. According to her, the name Belinda, which means “beautiful serpent,” no longer aligned with her identity after a divine encounter.
“God changed my name to Grace after a divine encounter,” she stated. “This reflects a personal rebranding, but not a change in my core values or identity.”
She rose to fame in Nigeria's film industry under the name Belinda Effah, appearing in numerous popular Nollywood productions before taking a step back from acting. Her new path marks a bold shift in her personal and professional life, as she embarks on a military career in the United States.
