Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been hospitalized after being stabbed 14 times in a California prison where he is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
The incident occurred Monday morning at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, according to prison officials. Lanez sustained multiple stab wounds to his back, torso, head, and face. Both of his lungs reportedly collapsed as a result of the attack, and he was briefly placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own and said to be in stable condition.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the assault, though the motive behind the stabbing remains unclear. No suspects have been named at this time.
Despite the severity of the injuries, Lanez shared an update on Instagram, stating he is “in good spirits” and grateful to be recovering.
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was sentenced in 2023 after being convicted on three felony gun charges related to the high-profile shooting. The case polarized the music industry, sparking fierce debate among fans and fellow artists.
Even amid his incarceration and recovery, Lanez has hinted at the upcoming release of a new album titled "Peterson."
