17th Headies Awards

Following two years in Atlanta, Georgia, the U.S.A., the Headies Awards returned to Nigeria on Sunday night, bringing together the biggest names in music at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.

With the themes "Back to Base" and "Apologetically African," the event recognised outstanding African music from April 1, 2023, until July 31, 2024.

In addition, the 17th Headies added two new categories: "Best Performer (Live)" and "Soundtrack of the Year," broadening the scope of acknowledgement for musicians' contributions to the business.

According to accounts, the event was plagued by technological difficulties and poor time management, which forced the organisers to call off the ceremony before the winners of some important categories were announced.

Best R&B Single, Best Collaboration, Lyricist on the Roll, Best Rap Album, Best Inspirational Single, Best West African Artiste of the Year, Best North African Artiste of the Year, Best South African Artiste of the Year, Best Performer (Live), and a few more categories had not yet been announced as of 3:32 am WAT.

Funke Akindele's groundbreaking film "A Tribe Called Judah" took home the recently established Soundtrack of the Year honor.
