Ghanaian international Reggae/Kuchoko artiste Blakk Rasta has been booked to headline FESPACO, the largest film festival in West Africa, scheduled to take place from February 22 to March 1 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The government of Burkina Faso has shown keen interest in Blakk Rasta for some time, which may have influenced his decision to create a patriotic song for the country titled Burkina Faso – Ma Patrie, Ma Fierté (Burkina Faso, My Country, My Pride).
Blakk Rasta, an unapologetic Pan-Africanist, has won the hearts of many both in Ghana and internationally. With numerous performances across the globe, he continues to push the boundaries of African Reggae. His album Salaga Soljah was the only African Reggae album shortlisted for the 2025 Grammys.
Blakk Rasta is set to perform in Ouagadougou on February 27 and 28 at Revolution Square and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, as announced by festival CEO Abraham Abassagué.
"We can’t wait to have Blakk Rasta at FESPACO. He is a great artiste full of energy and honesty. Burkinabes would love such a hero of our culture," Abraham stated.
He added, "Blakk Rasta is the only artiste booked from outside Burkina Faso this year out of over sixty performers of dance, comedy, theatre, and music. He is the star of FESPACO this year."
Blakk Rasta expressed excitement about performing at FESPACO, though this will not be his first time playing in Burkina Faso. He looks forward to delivering an electrifying show with his Herbalist Band at the prestigious festival.
