Dancehall star Shatta Wale has issued a challenge to his rival Stonebwoy to finally decide who can claim the title of 'Dancehall King' in Ghana with a face-off at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a social media post on Thursday, August 28, the self-proclaimed 'King' Shatta Wale wrote: "I am issuing a formal challenge to Stonebwoy and his fans to meet me at the Accra Sports Stadium to resolve the 'Dancehall King' title dispute."
He added: "If he and his fans decline this invitation, he should refrain from identifying as a Dancehall artiste, as I consider him a Reggae artiste."
The challenge comes after years of tensions between the two hitmakers over credit for their styles and dominance in the Ghanaian dancehall scene.
Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been locked in an intense rivalry for almost over a decade and half.
Both acts have championed the genre internationally with anthemic songs and sell-out shows.
However, the battle for superiority and attempts to lay claim to the coveted 'King' title have led to bad blood.
The feud has played out on social media and in lyrics, keeping fans entertained but also on edge.
Arguably, their most heated encounter was the altercation that ensued between them at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) where Shatta Wale and his entourage stormed the stage where Stonebwoy was taking his Best Dancehall Artiste award.
Stonebwoy was seen brandishing a gun during the altercation.
Both artists were subsequently banned from the awards scheme by organizers Charterhouse, and the highly-anticipated Artiste of the Year category was left unannounced due to the controversy.
