Kuami Eugene has cemented his status as Ghana's top highlife artiste by winning the Highlife Artiste of the Year award for an unprecedented fifth time at the 25th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
The annual award ceremony, which honors musical excellence in Ghana, saw dozens of artists battling it out in various categories at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
However, it was rockstar Kuami Eugene who reigned supreme in the highly contested highlife category, beating out fierce competition from veterans Abiana, Kofi Kinaata, and FRA.
His wins in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 had already established him as the category's most decorated artiste.
While Akwaboah and Kofi Kinaata had disrupted Eugene's four-peat run in the past two years, the "Monica" hitmaker regained the coveted title early Sunday morning, June 2.
The glittering award ceremony also saw performances from top acts like Nacee, Efya, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, and others, keeping fans entertained throughout the night.
Kuami Eugene had initially won the Best Music Video of the Year award for his hit single ‘Cryptocurrency.’
