Popular Ghanaian musician and socialite, Sam Safo, known as Showboy, has extended a plea to Ghanaians to support his creativity.
In an interview with Accra-based Adom FM, Showboy said he does not want to return to fraud to earn a living, as he had done before.
He explained that the lack of job opportunities in the country is why many youths resort to illegal means to earn a living.
In his words: “I want Ghanaians to support my music because if you don't support me, I will go back to doing fraud, which I don't want to do again. When I was young, I learnt about fraud and many bad things, including armed robbery. If music doesn't work out for me, I'll return to all of that.
"Certainly, I've had my share of experiences. People often come here and deceive you, don't they? But I choose to be honest and share my truth.
“In Ghana, there is no work here and given how I've been exposed to making money, I wouldn't have any other option."
Showboy, who was sentenced to six years in prison for allegedly stabbing fellow musician Junior US, was released from jail and deported back to Ghana last year.
In March 2019, Showboy received a six-year prison sentence for stabbing the Ghanaian musician who was living in the US following a fight.
Junior survived the stabbing but was later killed in a robbery attack in 2021, and many at the time of his death suspected Showboy’s “men” of being the ones who committed the stabbing.
Since returning to the country, the former co-founder of AMG music group has been making music and hosting a podcast.
