Ghanaian rapper and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Black Avenue music Desmond Blackmore popularly known as D-Black has lamented the poor state of the creative industry in Ghana.
According to the rapper, there are currently no proper structures to cater for creatives.
He said in an interview on Joy Prime that the country is in a mess as there are nothing positive about the creative industry.
He continued that musicians are suffering financially because there are no systems in place to ensure they earn better from their works.
“MUSIGA as a body is in court. There’s no leader. It’s just a mess. I feel like those systems need to be put in place to overlook the rights of Ghanaian creatives not only in the music scene but also in the movie industry as well.
“If I’m to speak bluntly, I will say that the structures that are in place for our music industry are terrible. GHAMRO is a terrible organization. There’s no accountability. I don’t know how much I’ve made from GHAMRO in my 13 years in the music industry,” D-black stated.
The rapper suggested that Ghanaian creatives need better structures and systems to ensure their welfare, not only in music but also in movies.
In order for artists to receive their fair share of royalties, D-Black emphasizes that the right-collection agencies must be established.
Black Avenue Music's boss urges the government to address the challenges facing the creative industry in Ghana urgently for progress.
