Special Prosecutor urges National Chief Imam to rally Muslims against corruption

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has urged the National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, to encourage Muslims across the country to join the national effort to combat corruption.

He made the appeal when he and his team paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam on Tuesday, August 25, to seek his blessings and support for the fight against corruption.

A statement shared by the OSP on Wednesday, August 26, noted that Mr Agyebeng stressed that the fight against corruption is a shared national responsibility and is essential to safeguarding Ghana’s future.

The Special Prosecutor also reflected on his tenure and noted that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had devoted significant institutional attention to legal challenges concerning its mandate, independence and operations, as well as challenges to his tenure.

He said the OSP did not complain about the litigation, arguing that independent institutions must be prepared to answer legal challenges.

The Special Prosecutor said the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision affirming the constitutionality of the OSP Act and its prosecutorial framework had allowed the Office to look ahead with renewed focus.

The National Chief Imam, in response, blessed the Special Prosecutor and expressed his support for the fight against corruption.

He stressed that confronting corruption is vital to safeguarding the future of generations and encouraged Mr Agyebeng to remain steadfast in the discharge of his mandate.
