Boakye Agyarko will beat NPP chairmanship contenders – Dr Asah-Asante

A Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, has predicted that former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko will win the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Chairmanship race.

The NPP is scheduled to elect its national executives at a National Delegates Congress on October 3.

The former Energy Minister is contesting against former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko, former General Secretary John Boadu and Sammy Crabbe.

Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight on Tuesday, August 25, Dr Asah-Asante said Mr Agyarko possesses the experience, discipline and leadership qualities needed to lead the party.

According to him, Boakye Agyarko stands out among the four remaining candidates seeking to lead the opposition party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

“He stands taller than all of them who are contesting with him. There’s no doubt about that. He has what it takes to lead the party, and he will be a better chairman for the party if he wins,” he said.

Dr Asah-Asante acknowledged the experience and credentials of the other contenders, noting that Mr Afoko is familiar with the position, while Mr Crabbe and Mr Boadu have also served the party in various capacities.

He, however, stressed that Mr Agyarko has a stronger profile and the capacity to secure victory when delegates vote.

He described Mr Agyarko as a “towering personality” with the ideas and ability to push his agenda through the party’s structures.

“They themselves know that Boakye Agyarko is the man. They can’t say it, but they know. The other aspirants know that Boakye Agyarko is the man,” Dr Asah-Asante said.
