I feel underappreciated despite being the 'best in the world' - Burna Boy

Famed Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy says he feels he does not receive enough recognition despite being "the best in the world."

While speaking with his team which includes British show promoter Adesegun Adeosun Jr. and podcaster Adesope, after performing at the Afronation festival in Portugal, Burna Boy said he is not bothered about not getting enough acknowledgement because Jesus Christ also didn't receive due recognition during his lifetime.

In a viral video, the 'African Giant' singer said he appreciated people testifying that he is the world's best musician.

Smade was heard saying in the video, "Burna, you keep blessing us. You don't get your credits enough bro. You're the f*cking best in the world."

The Grammy-winning artist replied: "No, I don't [get enough credits]. Jesus also didn't get his own credits till he died, so who am I?"

Adesope added, "It's not about Afrobeats anymore, it's about worldwide domination."

Burna Boy's career has continued to rise since his breakthrough in 2019.

That year, he won Best International Act at the 2019 BET Awards and was named Apple Music Up Next artist. His fourth studio album, African Giant, was released in July 2019.

The album won Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy released his fifth studio album, Twice as Tall, in August 2020.

The album took his success to new heights, winning Best World Music Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

He also won Best International Act at the 2021 BET Awards.

His sixth studio album, Love, Damini, was released in July 2022 and became his most successful to date.

It debuted at number 57 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the highest debut for an African album.

The album also charted higher in the Netherlands, United Kingdom and France than any previous African album.

In October 2022, Burna Boy was awarded the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic plaque in recognition of his achievements in music.

Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 197 on its list of the 200 greatest singers of all time in 2023.

He won Best International Act at the 2023 BET Awards - his third win in that category.

Burna Boy's career and fame have grown steadily since 2019, driven by the commercial and critical success of his albums African Giant, Twice as Tall and Love, Damini.

The accolades and awards have cemented his status as one of Africa's most acclaimed and influential musicians.
