Ghanaian entertainment mogul and politician, Sadiq Abdulai Abu, popularly known as Baba Sadiq, has reacted to Yvonne Nelson's recent claim that rapper Sarkodie impregnated her in 2010 and asked her to abort the baby.
In her newly launched memoir, "I Am Not Yvonne Nelson," the actress revealed that she had a brief sexual encounter with Sarkodie when he was an up-and-coming rapper with no means of livelihood, living with his mother at the time.
According to Ms Nelson, when she discovered she was pregnant, she informed Sarkodie, but the rapper was not financially ready to take up the responsibility.
She stated that she had to abort the baby because Sarkodie was not ready to father a child due to poverty and lack of shelter.
“I had gone for a pregnancy test to confirm…On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud and that would trigger a string of jolly conversations and jokes. But this was no laughing matter. It was a grim piece of information that was capable of turning my world upside down. I wasn't the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie,” she recalled in the memoir.
“Sarkodie was a budding musician with the potential to become one of the biggest artists in Ghana and beyond. At the time, however, the future looked uncertain, and his way through the maze of life still appeared too foggy to predict. Success was not guaranteed. He was still living with his mother and was not ready to carry a burden while he was being carried by his mother,” Miss Yvonne Nelson added.
In response to Nelson's claim, Baba Sadiq took to Twitter to express his opinion, stating that Sarkodie has some qualities that make him rise above negative stories.
He likened the rapper to fellow musician Shatta Wale, who seems to be "turned on" by negative commentary.
Baba Sadiq expressed his belief that Sarkodie would shoot higher this time around just as he always does.
"There is something about Sark that makes him rise above the big 'negative stories' all the time. Just like Wale, they seemed to be 'turned on' by 'negative commentary.'
“We probably need to brace ourselves, a Sark re-invention maybe imminent," Baba Sadiq tweeted on Monday, June 19.
Yvonne Nelson's revelation has sparked a lot of reactions on social media, with many people expressing their support for the actress while criticizing Sarkodie.
Sarkodie, on the other hand, has not made any public statement regarding the matter.
