Stop justifying what you condemned – Lydia Forson blasts NPP communicator for defending ‘family and friends’ govt’

Prominent Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson has commented on the hypocritical behaviour of some politicians in the country.

In a tweet on Friday, April 7, the social critic commented on how communicators of the ruling NPP are defending the alleged ‘family and friends’ appointment in the Akufo-Addo government.

She asserted that politicians only do what will benefit their party but not for the betterment of the whole country.

“So It's cool when they do it, It's a problem when others do it.

“It’s almost scary the lengths this government goes to justify the very things they condemned in opposition,” she wrote.

The filmmaker continued, “I’ve always said that politicians condemn/justify a position ONLY based on how it benefits them. Smh.”

This comes after Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of the Communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) defended President Akufo-Addo's decision to appoint family and friends to his administration.

She argued that qualifications and competence to perform should be the focus, not their relationship with the President.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3, Daaku chastised those who have been critical of the so-called "family and friends" government, stating that persons in government were appointed based on competence.

He cited Joyce Bawa Mogtari, an aide to former President Mahama, who served as the Deputy Minister of Transport under the former President but was able to perform her duties well based on her competencies.

“I don’t see the need to attack President Akufo-Addo just because he is working with his family and friends," Daaku said.

“So you can’t say family members who are qualified can’t do the work unless they are not. They are Ghanaians. Were you expecting him to use his enemies?" she quarried.

When asked if the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta who is the President’s cousin qualifies to be at post, she replied, “yes, since he has been there for the past six years.”
