Awards Not About Who Puts Out Good Music Anymore—A.J Nelson

Reactions keep pouring in after the release of the nominees list for this year's Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Dubbed, the Next Level, the awards show seeks to promote Ghanaian music by awarding industry player who have excelled under the year under review.

However, GH Brothers' signed rapper, A.J. Nelson believes the Ghana Music Awards has just been reduced to a popularity contest.

In a chat with Totalshowbiz.com, the Faith and Aden hit maker explained that to him, the “GMA is a popularity contest ain't about who puts out good music it's about who knows you. The picture is vivid.”

According to him, Charterhouse has dragged the credibility of the awards show down the drain.

“Over the years, nominations generate huge controversies and we don't seem to have learnt our lesson. The awards show can't be without controversies but if it looks as if whatever creates the controversies seem deliberate, the one will be left with nothing but to question the integrity of the whole thing!”

“Okyeame Kwame and Sarkodie should have been nominated for artiste of the year. Their exclusion raises so many questions. How can you not nominate the finest artistes who have been evergreen all year round and raised the bar when it comes to creativity?” he added.

A.J Nelson further stated that his single Faith which featured Jay Ghartey should have been nominated.

“If you have Ka No Seyaa by Herty Bongreat & Trigmatic nominated for best collaboration and Faith ain't there, the you ask yourself, where are we going? I think I should have been nominated for Hiphop Song of the year and Best Collaboration of the year,” he added.
