UNESCO to reconstruct Yaa Asantewaa Museum

Ejisu (Ash), April 19, GNA-The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is to reconstruct the Yaa Asantewaa Museum at Ejisu, which was gutted by fire last year, at a cost of 4.5 billion cedis.

He said the committee, which was asked to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak had completed its work and submitted its recommendations to the Ashanti Regional Security Council. Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, made these known in an answer to a question at a district's peoples' assembly at Ejisu on Friday.

He said 60 per cent of the assembly's revenue would be spent on educational infrastructure and scholarships for needy but brilliant children and teacher trainees in the district.

On water and sanitation, Mr Afrifa said the assembly had sunk 106 boreholes and constructed 740 household latrines as well as 52 institutional latrines throughout the district.

Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, in an answer to a question on the frequent electricity power outages in the district, said the Electricity Company of Ghana told the Ministry that, it would take about 15 months to repair and replace its faulty cables and urged the people to be patient.

She said even though government was aware of the current economic hardship facing the people as a result of the increases in the prices of petroleum products, the decision was a necessary measure to put the economic on a sound footing.
