It has not always happen that first albums of a musician propel him to fame hence topping musical chart within two months of its release but, that can not be said about the Deputy Superintended of Police Kofi Sarong's maiden album titled 'Sacrifice'.
Just a few weeks after its release, one song on the ten track album 'Ayeyi Ndwom' has been blaring continuously on radio all over the regions and when this reporter got to Kumasi last weekend it was the song on the lips of almost every body in Kumasi. One group of people, who has embraced the song religiously, interestingly is the commercial drivers. Curios to find out why, one taxi driver told me “me nua, enyom nu ye dey, Kofi Sarpong nyame nhria nu papaapa” meaning “this song is good , he sings so well God bless him”
One musical shop attendant told me the demand on the cd is overwhelming and they have run of stock for the past two days. According to him, they had 2000 copies last week and all is gone. A quick check to the producer to find out whether they're aware of the situation? This was his response. “Yes, we're very much aware of the situation. I think the situation will normalize very soon. We have already printed 10,000 copies and this week we are printing extra 5000 to avert the situation in Kumasi, Accra and Brong Ahafo where the demand is massive”.
Sounding very exciting and thankful, the affable police officer, Kofi Sarpong told me “I don't want people to only dance to the song but also listen to the lyrics and carry out the message in their day to day activities”.
“The real essence of a gospel song is the message and I urge all my fans to critically listen and focus on that. All the tracks communicate uplifting messages and I believe it only a matter of time all those songs will grow with the public. My songs are not lamentations but rather testimonies about the goodness of God and his mercies towards us so that people will have a cause to thank him”.
Touching on the hazard of the music profession, Kofi Sarpong said his biggest concern is piracy and as police officer he is ready to help minimize this canker that is killing most producers and musicians.
“The work of a police officer is to change life and to make sure good values and norms are maintained in the society. My mission is also to help the bad nuts in society to know that God loves them no matter their evil deeds and to help the aged in society, and for that reason I have decided to donate 50% of my album sales to the aged every year”.
The album is produced by the indefatigable dynamic producer, Mr. Ernest Kwesi Ennin for Media Excel Production and marketed by the same outlet.
