Goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda says he was lucky to represent Ghana at the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

The Legon Cities number 1 featured at the world’s biggest football tournament in 2014 where he kept the post for Ghana.

Dauda made dream World Cup appearances against Germany and Portugal having warmed the bench in the opening match against the USA.

The 36-year-old feels privileged to play at the World’s biggest football competition.

“Is good to play in the World Cup, sometimes it happens once in a lifetime,” Dauda said in an interview with GTV Sports+

“I was very excited because there were a lot of goalkeepers in Ghana but I had the chance to be at the World Cup.

“Some legendary goalkeepers like Eddie Ansah and Abukari Damba couldn’t get the opportunity to play at the World Cup but I was able to play.”

The former Ashanti Gold shot-stopper who has 24 caps for the Black Stars was also present at the 2008, 2013 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

After a difficult time with South African side Orlando Pirates and Chippa United, the goalkeeper made a return to Ashanti Gold where he helped the club to win the Ghana Premier League in 2016 before moving to Nigerian giants Enyimba but returned to join Legon Cities after spending two seasons in Nigeria.

He is an executive member of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PfAG).
