Accra, Feb 14, GNA - Prince Oduro-Mensah, former Member of Parliament for Techiman South has been appointed as the substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Sports Council (NSC) for the first time in 20 years.
According to information gathered by the GNA Sports, Oduro-Mensah was handed his official appointment letter from the Public Service Commission (PSC) early this week.
He is expected to assume office in earnest to serve a year of his four-year contract on probation.
The 48-year old MP's appointment, originally expected to take effect on February 1, emerged the best out of the five applicants interviewed by the PSC last April.
The PSC advertised for prospective candidates to apply for the position during the tenure of Albert Agbozo, the immediate past acting Chief Executive Officer of the Council
The appointment of the former MP has for the first time, therefore become a clear departure from the previous scenarios where various heads of the NSC only held the office in acting capacity. Oduro-Mensah, a native of Techiman is a product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Winneba Collage of Education where he pursued a degree and diploma programmes in Social Science and English Education respectively.
The former MP, a father of four was scheduled to meet officials of the Ministry of Education and Sports today to discuss his conditions of service.
