Boxing Minority Caucus In Parliament Release Statement To Console Isaac Dogbe
DEC 11, 2018 LISTEN

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority Caucus in Parliament has issued a statement to express their heartfelt consolation to Isaac “The Royal Storm” Dogbe who recently lost his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Bantamweight title to Emmanuel Navarrete.

The Ghanaian boxer was defeated last Saturday by the Mexican after a fierce 12 rounds of boxing at the Madison Square Garden in the United States of America.

The judges on the night unanimously scored the bout in favour of the challenger who dominated for most rounds on the night.

In a statement issued and signed by the Ranking Member of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome, MP for South Tongu Constituency, the Minority Caucus has urged the formal world champion to put the defeat behind him and re-strategize for his next action.

“The defeat should rather provide that learning curve to re-strategize into the future for greater victories just as other great boxers like “Professor” Samuel Azumah Nelson, Mohammed Ali, George Foreman among others”.

They have additionally called on government to give necessary support to boxers in the country with the potential of becoming world champions.

They are calling on the Ministry of Youth and Sports to team up with the Ghana Boxing Federation to invest and provide a serene atmosphere to develop amateur and juvenile boxers.

They believe if that is done Ghana will restore its glory days as far as boxing is concerned.

“Now that Ghana does not have a world title, I call on government to give the necessary support to potential world champions like Richard “Azonto” Commey, Duke Micah, Patrick Kpakpo Allotey, etc”, a portion of the statement read.

It continued, “I pray and hope the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the National Sports Authority (NSA) will team up with Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) to invest and develop the amateur and juvenile boxing which serves as the foundation of professional boxing for Ghana to recapture and restore its glorious past as the country that held four world titles at the same time in the persons of “Professor” Samuel Azumah Nelson, Ike Bazooka Quartey, Nana Yaw Konadu and Alfred Cobra Kotey in the 1990s”.
